The ‘shit’

Posted by Aparna.Burjwal on 10/02/2010

The accountant who left on his own accord has been instigating some of our clients and vendors alike. To the clients his message is that we are not good at our job and to the debtors, the message is that the company is going bankrupt and they should do anything to get their payments immediately.

So I started receiving calls since yesterday. One of the vendors began his rant of choicest hindi galis and I had to cut the phone. He pushed his way into the office today with about ten people. The guard posted outside as well as the office peon were pushed aside and manhandled. Then they began shouting at me and I had to call the cops.
What kind of ‘mardangi’ is this? To bring a crowd of hoodlums into the company and create this cheap drama.

Its just amazing, the way events boomerang and this is when we are still struggling to find our feet in the market and otherwise. It is just very tiring.

So much energy goes in maintaining the bottomline that the topline is not even clear. The ‘mission statement’ we set out to achieve is not even visible on the horizon. The day to day ‘pungas’, the daily survival, the daily ‘ego ka daldal with the accountant, the driver, the team member’ is just too stressful.

My being a ‘woman’ has got a lot to do with it. No running away from that fact.
So one more day gone in drama. I mean we get our payments in six months, sometimes later from Government clients. Yet, we ensure that our vendors get paid on time. If the entire payment is not possible in one go, we make part payments to ensure that no one suffers. So this was not about payment. It was some screwed up show of male ego at the behest of our ousted accountant.

And I was thinking of looking up for some VC’s today to see if some funding could be arranged. Now, I am just sitting with a cup of tea wondering.

If nothing else, I can understand today why a lot of women in our country choose a softer, easier option.

I hope tommorrow is another day, another life maybe.
